21% increase in volume of cargo handled in Damietta Port in April

A report issued by the Damietta Port Authority showed an increase in the number of ships at the port during the month of April compared to April 2017.

The number of ships docked at the Damietta Port amounted to 281 vessels during April, compared to 229 ships in the same period of 2017—a growth rate of 22.7%, according to the report.

General cargo ships increased by 68.3% in April, compared to the same period of 2017.

The volume of cargo handled at the port increased by 21% compared to the same period of 2017, according to the report. The volume of cargo handled by the port reached 3.4m tonnes in April, compared to 2.8m tonnes in April of 2017.

The volume of liquid bulk vessels decreased by 48.7% last April, while the general cargo increased by 32% and the volume of goods in containers increased by 40%.

The Damietta Port Authority report showed an increase in the number of containers handled through the port by 38.3% compared to April 2017. The number of containers handled at the port increased from 81,400 TEUs in April last year to 112,700 TEUs in April 2018.
