CAIRO: Samir Zaher will remain as the chairman of the Egyptian FA after the final appeal against the legitimacy of his victory in the 2008 elections was turned down.

The Egyptian court of law announced the ruling on Monday, which means that Zaher is staying in his position until the date of the next elections.

Zaher was sacked in July after the National Sports Council (NSC) received a verdict from the Supreme Administrative Court that he was ineligible run for the post in 2008.

The court said that the decision was based on allegations that the 67-year-old has a criminal record.

However, the verdict was overruled a few weeks later and Zaher was reinstalled as chairman, giving his prosecutors a final chance to make another appeal.

Zaher will, however, step down from his post in 2011 as regulations would not allow him to remain for a third successive stint.
