The Press Syndicate had followed with a deep concern the storming of the Sada El-Balad news website on Tuesday which resulted in the wounding of three fellow journalists, said the syndicate’s head, Diaa Rashwan, on Tuesday.
A number of bodyguards had stormed the headquarters of Sada El-Balad, and destroyed several computer devices.
Local media reported that prominent film producer Ahmed El-Sobki stormed into the news website headquarters, along with other seven bodyguards, due to a dispute over broadcasting a series.
Journalists reported to the media that El-Sobki and his bodyguards had accused them of indecent charges, and rejected dialogue with the editor-in-chief to calm the situation.
After a while, El-Sobki found that he had stormed the wrong destination, as he intended the Sada El-Balad TV channel not the news website.
The journalist issued a report against the film producer to the prosecution, and following seven hours of investigations, he was released on bail of EGP 1,000 for the charge of using 11 people and storming the site and abusing its workers.
The syndicate expressed full solidarity with the journalists who were performing their work, and asserted that the incident will not simply pass without repercussions.
Lawyers of the syndicate had attended with the journalists during the prosecution’s investigation, along with members of the syndicate’s council.
Rashwan stressed that he will stand with the abused colleagues by all means and legal instruments, so that their rights will be returned to them and the legal penalty will be imposed on those who committed the unacceptable attack.
Moreover, the Supreme Media Council issued a statement condemning the blatant assault against the newspaper, stressing that it was following the situation and is currently considering taking a number of measures in light of the prosecution’s investigations.
The council confirmed its full condemnation of any attack on any journalist or media institution and noted that its actions would be deterrent in that regard.
