Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, is to meet on Tuesday with the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, in order to discuss the bilateral relations between the two sides as well as to tackle regional issues.

During his visit, Shoukry will hold a number of meetings with leaders of the US administration, members of the Congress, and various US officials.

The meeting tackled the means to boost the Egyptian-US ties in different domains, along with regional and international files of mutual interest, including the Palestinian cause, the situation in Syria, Yemen and Libya, in addition to discussing the means of combating terrorism.

In January 2019, Pompeo met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and Shoukry and discussed ways to strengthen the relations and reviewed regional affairs, as part of his eight-country Mideast tour that started with Jordan.

During this meeting, Shoukry and Pompeo addressed supporting and developing trade exchange between the two countries, and highlighted the US support to Egypt in the latter’s economic reform programme, and the investment opportunities available for the US’ companies in Egypt.

Pompeo affirmed the strong strategic relations between Egypt and the US, praising the US efforts in supporting Egypt’s war against terrorism.
