The ministry of health announced on Saturday that it is going to launch a new initiative titled ‘Your Right to Plan’ in order to increase citizen’s awareness over the importance of family planning in 9 governorates.

According to a statement from the ministry of health’s spokesperson, Khaled Mogahed, the initiative will start on Sunday in 9 governorates: Fayoum; Beheira; Dumyat; Assuit; Qaliubiya; Port Said; South Sinai; Matrouh, and Alexandria.

Sahar Al-Sonbaty, head of the Population and Family Planning department in the ministry, said that the initiative is part of the ‘Our Days Better’ campaign, which aims to provide citizens with the needed knowledge and safe services related to family planning and reproductive health.

The initiative also aims to let the parents be more capable to freely decide the number of kids they want to have and the periods between each kid. Additionally, the initiative aims to decrease the number of families who give up the means of family planning and easily provide these means.

Al-Sonbaty praised the role of the United Nations Population Fund and the EU in the family planning initiative in the most needed villages and new cities.

The initiative targets adolescents, youth, spouses, women at the age of reproduction, newly married women, and women at the age of post reproductive age. Meetings with women and other meetings with men will be held separately in side initiatives for the main campaign.
