Air traffic back to normal at Cairo International Airport, delayed flights to depart in 2 hours

Investigation ordered with company heads to find reason behind failure

Sources at Cairo International Airport (CAI) said a large number of coordinators and public relations officials have been helping passengers and providing assistance.

The ministry of civil aviation, in a statement, announced on Sunday said that there had been a breakdown in passenger departure systems at terminals 2 and 3, as well as the seasonal terminal due to a technical failure in the channels of communication between the contracted global booking system and the check-in system.

A source familiar with the matter told Daily News Egypt that the failure was caused by the global company supervising the system in different parts of the world and not just in Egypt, adding that it was fixed and air traffic was back to normal.

The sources added that Younis El Masry, minister of civil aviation, ordered an investigation with the heads of Cairo Airport Company, including the heads of sectors and officials of the terminals to find the reason behind the failure.

The ministry said in its statement that El Masry toured the airport to see how airline officials were handling passengers. He also gave directives to open all waiting lounges to passengers until the problem is solved and called for full coordination between the airport, the airport company, and EgyptAir.
