Infrastructure projects, health top new governors’ agenda

Governor of Kafr El-Sheikh Ismail Abdel Hamid Taha, told Daily News Egypt that caring for citizens is his top priority, and at the same time these were the directives of the president to all governors. “Our slogan is citizens first,” he stressed.

However, he pointed out that priorities will be for existing projects that must be completed, adding that he will not start new projects before completing old ones.

Regarding problems of the province, he said he is aware of most of the governorate’s problems and an initial vision on some of the projects that will be established in Kafr El-Sheik in the coming period after completing the projects is underway. He added that projects must be based on feasibility studies.

“I am a very practical man and can assess executive performance,” he said, adding that there will be no room for corruption. He explained that he will adopt an open-door policy to serve citizens and fight corruption, while drawing on the experience of employees and improving their skills to ensure principles of accountability, discipline, and commitment.

Taha added that President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi directed them to exert their best efforts to serve citizens and meet their needs in all governorates, as well as utilising the best potential of all of them to turn them into investment opportunities, which means providing new jobs for youth and improving standards of living.

The Governor of Daqahlia Kamal Gad, was clear in his priorities. He told DNE that priority is given to the new cities, in addition to Lake Manzala. As for the recommendations of President Al-Sisi, he said they agreed on caring for citizens and providing goods in villages and hamlets.

Gad added that one of the biggest challenges in the province of Dakahlia is that it is a large province and has a large population in need of great effort.

He pointed out that he will seek to transform the city of Mansoura into the capital of Delta, making it a clean, disciplined, and an organised city.

Another file he will work on is the New Mansoura City, in order to provide beaches for all citizens, in addition to working on Laka Manzalah, where he aims to eliminate pollution and turn it into a natural farm to produce thousands of fish for Egyptians.

Gad continued by saying that the governorate has many different wealth sources, where agriculture and industrial sectors need to be developed to compete in global markets, especially, in Asia. He noted that the governorate is suffering from high prices, sanitation, and traffic problem, which he will work on solving.

“We will work to build the Egyptian citizen and provide the appropriate environment for education through coordinating between the Ministry of Education and the governorate, along with applying the new education system in all schools,” he noted.

Gad pointed out that Al-Sisi stressed the need to send a message of optimism to the Egyptian people and to talk with citizens to better understand their problems and provide the best quality of services.

In Qena, the situation was different, as the governor was not changed, but confidence was renewed for Abdel Hamid El-Hagan, who thanked the political leadership for this. He explained that the governorate will witness further development in all sectors, especially, health, after completing the development of hospitals which will soon be opened.

In terms of housing, he said that drinking water will reach New Qena, in addition to working on West Qena’s new city on an area of 9,000 feddans to serve citizens of the city. As for bridges, El-Hagan said that they are working on the Naqada Qus axis worth EGP 1.250bn.

He continued to say that he has never hesitated to solve the problems of citizens, through his presence on the streets and by hearing their problems from visits and field trips. He said he wants to follow-up on new projects and solve the challenges they are facing.

El-Hagan noted that Qena has seen a breakthrough in the past few years in terms of development projects, which cost over EGP 18bn of investments, including projects in wastewater, electricity, and infrastructure.

The new logistics area occupies a distinguished position between the governorates of the Red Sea, Sohag, Luxor, and the New Valley in addition to its proximity to Qena, he pointed out.

The zone has many investment opportunities such as Wataniya gas station, a land allocated for a university, and a plot for a stadium. It is also close to New Qena, which is on 9 feddans. A private company has embarked already on constructions in the city.

Investment opportunities are being linked to utilities, adding that the project is a result of coordination between the private sector and the governorate, which will provide jobs for youth, he added.

Major General Khaled Fouda the Governor of South Sinai, was also one of those who stayed in position for South Sinai. He expressed happiness to stay in office for the fifth time in a row.

Fouda said he will do his best to make his dream come true, which is expanding in the field of land reclamation and agriculture to turn the governorate into a food producer, as well as completing the implementation of the industrial zone in Abu Znaima on an area of 4,000 feddans. He added that the governorate is now working on delivering utilities to the area, after signing agreements with the Ministry of Military Production with Chinese companies and signing protocols of cooperation with concerned bodies to complete this dream which would provide over 100,000 jobs.

His biggest dream is to establish a free zone in the city of Nuweiba on an area of ​​1m sqm and turn it into a global centre in trade and industry, Fouda explained.

The province has witnessed during the past period a major development boom in the field of health, housing, agriculture, education, and other infrastructure projects, where 9,112 residential units were established, 12 model farms, seven agriculture complexes, as well as improving the efficiency of hospitals and providing them with the latest medical equipment. He noted that the governorate have also established a total of 57 schools of 535 schoolrooms, he stressed.

Fouda said that he inspected the new Taba port to ensure it was ready to welcome back the Hajj members, as well as the crossing development and installing electronic gates on all entrances and exits.

He explained that this is part of the plan to improve the entire security scheme at a cost of EGP 60m, where the crossing was equipped with 22 cameras to monitor movements inside the port, whereby his intention to complete all important standing projects, such as the King Salman University, the development of the fishing port in Sinai, and the completion of the road network in the governorate, as well as completion of the new road from the tunnel to Sharm El-Sheikh.

“I am one with the people and I hate staying in offices,” said Essam Saad El-Din, who received the news that he was appointed governor of Fayoum.

Moreover, he added that he always dedicates himself to serve Egypt and its people and now he will dedicate himself to serve the people of Fayoum in particular. He said he has served for 37 years in the police force, so he knows the streets very well and will monitor everything related to Fayom residents.

Service files will be his top priority, noting that he will work from the field, he stressed that.

He noted he assumed office on Friday and promised to fulfil his job.

Raising the name of the province of Beheira is the goal sought by Hisham Amna, governor of Beheira, who was happy to be appointed to this position.

Working to improve the lives of citizens and caring for utilities and solving residents’ problems will be his main concern, he added.

In addition, he will be working to achieve the aspirations and hopes of the people of the province through the cooperation of everyone in all areas.

The problems of citizens will be a top priority to work on to develop quick solutions to, and that he will be in constant contact with everyone, he pointed out, adding that he will be very serious in tackling the sanitation system to leave no room for corruption.

Meanwhile, the problems of the country will not be solved by loud voices, but rather by seeing and hearing everyone, after discussions with concerned parties to take the best decision, he stated. 

He said that President Sisi placed youth as responsible for the creation of a second generation of leaders. “We all must be one hand with development and against all existing conspiracies,” pointing out that his deputy Nihal Balbaa represents a promising future for the youth of the country and a correct step for the inspiration of the second generation of leaders.

Mohamed Zamlout, governor of the New Valley

Mohamed Zamlout, governor of the New Valley, after renewing his confidence, confirmed that he is continuing to complete the development programme that is taking place in the province, which includes pushing the economy forward and establishing a number of major industrial and agricultural projects, such as producing potassium from Abu Tartour phosphate, which creates 1,000 jobs.

He added that he will work to provide everything that serves and fulfils the aspirations of the people of the New Valley, and in the various development sectors besides the service projects that the New Valley needs from drinking water and sewage projects especially in the new residential communities and villages.

He pointed out that the coming period will see the implementation of investments to improve the infrastructure of the province at a value of EGP 100m, in addition to completing open files such as fresh water, sanitation, health services, and the expansion of Japanese schools. He also expressed interest in establishing a fertiliser plant to exploit phosphate ore.

Adel Al-Ghadban was happy to remain in office, saying he is committed to fulfilling the directives of President Al-Sisi to solve the problems of the city’s residents.

He pointed to the continued work on the implementation of the Port Said Development Plan, which kicked off recently to improve services provided to the residents of the city, especially, in the fields of housing, health, education, and basic facilities.

The governor announced his intention to lead the official and popular work system in Port Said during the next phase to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the citizens of the province. He pointed out the importance of popular cohesion to confront all obstacles facing comprehensive development plans in the governorate and to maximise the benefit of existing national projects in East and West Port Said.

He welcomed every thought and every extended hand to improve Port Said, highlighting his loyalty to Port Said and its distinguished people. “This is the firm approach of the Egyptian military institution, to which I am proud to belong to,” he said.

Qassem Hussein Qassem, the new governor of Minya, said that he is working on implementing the state plan to promote the governorate and implement the directives of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

He said that Al-Sisi has directed him to exert every effort to serve citizens and meet their needs, pointing out that the problems of the people of Minya will be his top concern.

Minya governorate is one of the largest and most important provinces, with a large population of 6 million. He said he will study many files to learn about the points of strength and weaknesses to benefit from all potentials, stressing his intention to hear citizens’ complaints, talk to them, and improve their living conditions, he noted.

The next phase will witness the intensification of the removal of infringements on the Nile River, the monitoring of all actions that may lead to pollution, and raising awareness of citizens of the importance of keeping the riverbed clean, and highlight that its cleanliness impacts their health, as well as developing the skills of employees, raising their competencies, empowering them, and establishing the principles of accountability and accountability, discipline and commitment, reward and punishment, he said.

He will work to implement an integrated programme to complete the development and service projects of the governorate, and complete them on schedule.

“The governorate needs to be restructured,” said Alaa Abdel Halim, the new governor of Qalyubia, after taking charge of the province.

He will meet with the media twice a month to convey the truth to the citizens, noting that he wishes to be responsible and solve the problems of the province.

Abdel Halim added that political leadership has clear directions and it is necessary to improve the services which reach citizens in each governorate in the republic.

His work day and night will be focused on the street and following-up on schools and hospitals, saying that the office will only be for meeting guests and official visits, he stressed.
