The head of the Cairo International Film Festival, Mohammed Hefzy, stated in a press release that honouring Hassan Hosney comes as a result of his continuous giving to the cinematic scene through different generations. He added that he is one of the few artists who has enriched Egyptian cinema with remarkable films throughout different eras.

Meanwhile, Hosney stated that the award is like an Oscar for him, which will take place in its next edition on 20 November.

“This award is more of an honour to my 60-year journey in the cinematic scene. This is the most important prize I have ever received, and it is enough that it holds the name of Faten Hamama,” local media outlets reported.

Hosney started his career in the early 1960s.

Critic Sherif Rizkallah, the artistic director of the festival, stated that Hosney is considered a “great phenomena in Egypt’s history, and his unique talent helped him to maintain his statement in the cinema for more than half a decade.”

Hosney is one of the few old male artists who still have an imprint and strong existence in films starring younger generations.

He co-starred in some of the most successful films of the early 2000s, including “Africano” and “Abood Al-Hodod” (Abood Over the Boarders).
