Minister of Health Hala Al-Zayed inspected on Friday the health status of patients that underwent operations with the new waiting list initiative at the National Heart Institute.

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi launched the initiative to get rid of waiting lists for patients who have been long seeking to go under surgery and critical medical interventions within six months free of charge.

Al-Zayed expressed her pride for the solidarity of Egypt’s hospitals to achieve the success of the initiative to eliminate waiting lists for patients.

In conjunction with the initiative, the General Authority for Hospitals and Educational Institutes declared Friday as a day that will be free of charge in all hospitals working under its supervision to conclude urgent operations.

The Ministry of Health previously launched a website and hotline to receive applications of those who want to undergo urgent surgeries or operations.

About 70 catheter diagnostic and therapeutic operations have been completed and five open heart surgeries for adult, and one for a child. Also, 3,800 operations have been completed since the launching of the campaign on waiting lists in cooperation with the university hospitals and the armed forces and police.

This initiative started three weeks ago and came as part of the preparations made by the state to implement the comprehensive health insurance system, which is seen as one of the most important achievements in the health file, which has long suffered from negligence.
