Mahmoud Mohieldin, First Vice President of the World Bank, will deliver a lecture in Egypt on November 19, entitled “Progress in a Changing World”.

Egyptian Center For Economic Studies (ECES), in coordination with the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt (AmCahm), are hosting Mahmoud Mohieldin, first vice president of the World Bank, to give a lecture on 19 November entitled “Progress in a Changing World”.

The main theme of the meeting is the important dimension of development. For example, it discussed means to cope with the rapid change in various fields such as information technology, trade and investment movement, fluctuations in commodity prices and energy, changes in population structure and migration, the economic weight, and trends of globalisation.

Effective response to these rapid changes requires the use of integrated development programmes.
Mohieldin is expected to present a range of experiences from developed and developing countries in this regard, especially with regard to the policies of implementing sustainable development programmes, their financing, and follow-up systems.

The Egyptian authorities are currently implementing an ambitious programme of economic reform initiated by the liberalisation of the pound exchange rate and the structure of fuel subsidies, enabling it to sign with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to borrow $12bn over three years, which is a certificate of confidence for the Egyptian economy.

The reforms were reflected in several economic indicators that witnessed a real recovery, including a decline in unemployment to 11.9% and a decrease in trade balance. Foreign direct investments (FDIs) increased to $7.9bn by the end of June 2017 compared to $6.9bn by the end of June 2016.
