Steigenberger International Hotel Management plans to complete the first phase of the development of the Movenpick Hotel Pyramid in December this year, according to the regional manager of the group in Egypt and the Middle East, Tewfik El Kady, adding that the company contracted to manage the hotel for 15 years.

El Kady added in a private statements to Daily News Egypt that the management company Steigenberger is currently in the process of development and renovation of Movenpick without increasing the capacity of the hotel where the number of rooms will remain the same.

An official of the Tourism Development Company that owns the hotel said in previous statement to Daily News Egypt that the company aims to increase its capacity to 460 rooms, compared to 360 rooms at the present time.

“We were hoping to increase the capacity of the hotel with the expectations of the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum next year,” according to the official of the Tourism Development Company.

The museum aims to receive 150,000 visitors a day, which will impact Movenpick Pyramid Hotel, since it is in close proximity to the musem, according to the official.

The tourism development company hopes that the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum near the area of the pyramids will increase the occupancy of the hotel throughout the year, thus raising its revenues and completing the development work according to the official. In addition to that, the area is very promising, in light of the urban expansions implemented by the state in the west of Cairo.

Meanwhile, El Kady said the development work is taking place in two stages, the first of which is six months long and currently underway, while the second will take a year.

According to El Kady, all the development of the hotel will be completed by the end of 2018, and the hotel will operate under the Steigenberger brand after the development is completed, adding that the hotel is not closed and is currently welcoming guests.
