Mobile phones most online requested products in Egypt

With 61% percent of people purchasing mobile phones online in Egypt, they have become the number one purchased online product in the domestic market, according to a report by Payfort.

Other popular transactions include online payments, which is used by 38% of Egyptians. Additionally, 37% of domestic consumers said they bought their laptops online, while 35% purchased their tablets online.

The report by Payfort studies seven countries in the Middle East: Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain. Among those countries, mobile phone devices are the most requested online products by roughly 45% of consumers, while airline ticket purchases are made by 44% of Arab consumers, clothes shopping by 40%, and online bill payment by 38%.

According to the report, smart phones, and tablets opened new doors in global marketing. Smart phones have become a key element in e-commerce, as roughly 50% of consumers shop online via mobile in Egypt.

According to the report, 67% of online shoppers across the Arab world prefer to do so via their computer, while 49% use mobile phones, and 24% shop online via tablets, interchangeably.

In terms of the Arab world’s shopping behaviour, the report showed that 31% of Arab users rely on traditional methods to look for and buy products, while 29% do so online. Their choice depends mainly on the price of the product they want to purchase. 21% of consumers search for products online, while purchasing them offline. Only 2% search for the products through traditional methods, before purchasing them online.
